Becoming a Police Officer after a military career?

03 Jun

How hard do you think it would be to become a Police Officer at the age of 38 (after being in the military for 20 years)?
Also if you retired from the military are you still able to be a police officer until you can retire from the police force?

How long after a Marine Corps Reserve Units is activated is it deployed?

03 Jun

If all goes well I hope to be apart of the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division by mid November. The unit was activated December 1st to go to Iraq. If it was activated then, when will it most likely deploy? Is there an average amount of time?

What kind of discharge will the Army give me for being gay, after I have been AWOL less than 30 days?

28 May

I left my unit with hopes would find some answers but i’m more confused now than when i left. You see here’s my real problem, I knew I was gay before I went into the ARMY but as they do with everyone, the recruiter told me to lie pretty much. (yeah i know i signed the papers) but I didn’t know how prejudice the Army really is against homosexuals. They are worset than any racist person I ever met. And I’m getting sickend by the way treat their soldiers.
Does anyone know what happens when you return to the unit before the 30 days is up? What are the chances they keep me in even if i “come out” to them? thanks so much for you help!

Can i reenlist in the national guard after i went AWOL?

26 May

well this is the story. When i was 17 i enlisted into the national guard. I completed evrythin i was officially in it. i was put on a plane to ft benning. i got to georgia and lucky me there was soldiers retrning form iraq that same day so i started talking to some of them. they all looked like they went to hell and back and all of them told me gtfo before its to late. So my i was 17 and got scared shitless and had my fiancee buy me a plane ticket back home and i was done with the national guard. I dont know what kind of “resignation” they did. Honorable, unhonorable, idk. But now im 19 and i realize what a stupid little kid i was and i really want to reinlist. My question is.. can I? and if i can will i still have all my benefits.. 20k bonus, etc.

Good reasons why it’s a good idea to join the Military after High School?

25 May

I want to go to the Marines after High School but want to know what are your reason’s on why going to the Military could be a good idea.

Me, personally, I want to join the Marines for the honor, brotherhood, make a difference in myself, do something with myself, serve my country, and get the hell away from my ex’s lol (gotta get over her some way).

Have you ever met a Marine? Do you know a few?

Spouse AWOL after returning home on convalescent leave.?

23 May

My spouse flew back late last month after have three surgeries. Needless to say, she was pretty drugged up when I got her. She had 6 days of convalescent leave (free leave for soldiers with medical problems) and was in lots of pain. We ended up going to the ER twice over the next 6 days. On the day she was to return to her unit, I drove her to the airport, but she was throwing up and was having a hard time walking. I asked if she would be allowed to fly as they said no, so I drove the 300 miles home and took her to the ER (third time). I called her unit and told them, but beings as she is in AIT, they really didn’t seem to care. I tried faxing them the doctor’s note, but their fax wasn’t working. Around the 7th of this month, she was out of pain, but we were out of money to fly her due to the constant long trips to the hospital.
On the 15th, we found out that her pay had stopped and after a third call to her company, I was finally able to get in touch with her 1st Sgt who pretty much said that it was up to her to get back and offered no advice.

I contacted the nearest base, Ft Lewis, 500 miles away, and I’ll be turning her over to the MP’s. She has not reached the 30 day mark so she isn’t a deserter. I just feel so bad that the military wasn’t willing to grant her more leave after her surgeries. What are the chances they will throw the book at her, and what can I do to help? We have kept in contact with her unit. I served in the Army for 6 years, got out Honorable, and feel just horrible that she has such a worthless chain of command.
Her AIT is at Fort Sam Houston. I was surprised that she was going to be able to return home on Convalescent Leave. The reason they let her take leave was because she had missed so much class time from all the TMC and Hospital visits that she was getting recycled the company behind, so would have been sitting around for a few weeks. In their minds, Appendix removed, 7-10 Days, Cyst removed from organ, 7-10 Days, another female surgery, 7-10 Days = 7-10 Days of leave.

No, the military doesn’t pay for flights to and from home for soldiers going on convalescent leave. And as for as going to Madigan in Fort Lewis, well, we’re heading there tomorrow. I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it myself.

As far as letting her deal with it, well, letting someone so new in the military handle things for themselves, well, the cadre will walk all over them. In her AIT, with 500 soldiers per company, the Drill Sergeants really stop caring about soldiers. I’ve been there, done that.

Is it possible to rejoin the ARMY after being AWOL for 1 yr. Left for personal reasons. Regret my choice?

17 May

I left from my unit last year in October. We were not being deployed ….I was not trying to avoid the war. My Wife had an affair and with the stress of being a new Soldier, I couldn’t handle everything. I took the easy way out and I regret it everyday. I have heard of people re-joining the army after being away for years. I would give anything to re-join the ranks regardless of the rank I am given and do my best to finish what I started. I am not a war resister…nor am I running away to Canda and applying for citizenship. I just want an honest chance to fix the most terrible desicion I have ever made. Any advice on what I can do…please tell me. I was in Vicenza, It as a paratrooper. Before you reply with ‘your a coward”, please understand that my guilt has been haunting me everyday for the past year…I just want to fix a bad choice.

Does anyone know whether or not it is true the National Guard Serving in Iraq get a bonus after every tour?

01 May

Not that they don’t deserve it for managing to go to hell and come back. I was speaking to a young man in a retail store the other day. He said he was 18 (!) and going back for his third tour (incredible.) He matter of factly said he had 37 kills (his words) on his last tour as armoured tank personnel. He talked a bit about his family and then mentioned that he got $50,000. after his first tour. I have also heard that new recruits get a signing bonus upward of $10, 000.
No amount of money is sufficient, as I said earlier. This is not a lot especially when you consider that a second year lawyer in a prestigious firm might get a similar bonus and not ever be in harms way. Still, it seems unfair inducement for such young people, especially if they are from poor families, which most are. Anyone know?
I felt the young man was exaggerating. Given his age and the need for training before being sent to Iraq and the length of tours (several months, right?) I thought he was a bit young for 3 tours. That was just the conversation. I would appreciate responders not getting caught up in those details and just speaking on the issue of bonuses. Thanks.
