Free Education for military veterans from Texas?

21 May

For the past few years, I’ve been told that schooling and education of free for veterans from the state of Texas. My question is, Is the schooling free via G.I. Bil or by other means. I will be getting out soon and wanna prepare myself. If this helps, these are the awards I’ve earned while serving: Iraq Campaign, Afghanistan Campaign, Combat Action, Nato and others that come with deployment. I’ve also heard you need certain awards for certain privileges as well. Thank you for your time.

    Texas State Veteran Education Benefits
    The Hazlewood Act
Wartime veterans who were legal residents of Texas at the time they entered military service, and Home of Record is listed as Texas on the DD214, are entitled to a waiver of tuition and some fees at State-supported/public (taxpayer supported) colleges and universities. This benefit is also available to children of Texas servicemen and women who died or were killed in military service, and to children of Texas military personnel who are shown to be missing in action or prisoners of war. Also eligible are children of members of the Texas National Guard or the Texas Air National Guard killed since January 1, 1946, while on active duty either in service of Texas or the United States.

Illinois is another state, if you enlist out of that state and return to that state, then you get free tuition for awhile (Not sure how long, books not included).

Texas does give grants and various other things for awards earned while in the military, ie the Purple Heart.

Generally most states don’t care about their veterans, the VA doesn’t care, neither does the Services themselves after they use and abuse you. The states and V.A. could careless if you die or commit suicide, but they prefer you choose one or the other.
